Crazy to think, I was crashing on an acquaintances couch in San Francisco checking emails on my phone when Tim Rutili sent the demo for a track he wanted to release with us. At the time the plan was just a lathe run 7" set up but the track was too rich for such a small offering and too long for the medium. So we upgraded to a small pressing on a 10" record and the project evolved into the Insect Courage EP.
Three big songs, three pieces of instrumental music. Followers of Califone know there is no such thing as a superfluous release in their catalog. Tim curates a very intentional and powerful body of work, which typically comes in the form of fully fleshed out and cohesive LPs. Count'em up. It's an exclusive discography because there isn't a single weak song on any of his releases. This EP is no different, and will join a very honored lineage of Califone music. I can't wait to share it with you.
We actually just got them. The Acorn Alliance space is stacked high with boxes of beautiful sleeves and vinyl. The sleeves will be put through the press, asserting that industrial age violence that leaves such beautiful artistic impressions. The coup de grâce will be the download codes which are coming in the tactile form of uniquely printed wooden nickles. A gorgeous package.
Califone is hitting the road in support of this killer record with a fresh marathon of house show dates. The schedule is still coalescing and hosts are still needed in certain areas. I encourage you to browse the list and mark your calendars: Califone - Insect Courage drops March 21st, 2016. Be sure to catch a show if one is in your area, as Tim's house shows are rivaled by none.
Don't get too lonesome,
